While Waiting

I stand inside this doorway

with patience and my daydream

What thoughts arise between now

and the moment somebody utters when

Look around at all these photographs

none of which I see my reflection in

Seconds pass and in the background

a choir is repeating what John Lennon

said so cogently a long long time ago

And here I stand next to where you might

be standing quiet too asking in one voice

How long (how many lifetimes) until we win

Angel Buddha Unicorn

While you are sleep dreaming
a trio of shadows alights in your room

You might hear their faint chorus
a distant melody deep sweet and low

What message their voices whisper
a calm symphony or euphonious hum

Gifts they leave for discovery
light passages welcome a new day

Lift your eyes toward ceiling at dawn
imagine there cloudless quiet skies

Three shadows meet in your window
looking in looking out through you

Endings

Maybe a thousand years from now

when no one knows my name

the one who finds the note I write

slipped between these silent walls tonight

will know this was once my house

surrounded by these tall pine woods

where I wandered with wild lilies, spring roses, and butterflies

where I stood looking up to wide open starry skies

talking with the moon

where I lit candles in empty rooms

And I photographed my cat

who sat waiting patiently near the door

so she wouldn’t be left behind.
